People Pleasing 101
Raise your hand if you are a people pleaser! There is no job to big or small for you, especially if it means that it makes someone else’s life better or easier. I’ve got both hands up. There are some upsides and downsides to this type of behavior.
I have come to find that we tend to be of a very nurturing nature. We want to care for all of the people around us. We want them to have everything they need and want, and to the best of our abilities we try to give it to them. That is beautiful. It is beautiful to put others before yourself and it is beautiful to care that much, but as with everything else in life, balance is key and your whole life cannot be catered to everyone else.
Many, myself included, can give and give and give until all of the sudden the well is drained. This can cause feelings of anxiousness and depression. It can tend to feel lonely, and put you in a vulnerable place. All of the sudden you need people, and it can be hard to find them.
All that said, its most important to look inward. It is essential to practice self-care in order to maintain your own wellness. Mostly, it is important to take stock of those that care for you. It is critical to know who you can call of them, and how to call on them. It can be difficult for us to burden others with our needs, but homie we got them too! It is ok, it is more than ok, it is normal! The people that love you are usually just a phone call away, so hit em up!
